Inside the Honda Insight Hybrid

The 2012 Honda Insight was redesigned to meet the needs of an active lifestyle, with five-door access and more spacious interior. The use of smaller internal components allows for more cabin and cargo space, making the Insight family-friendly and versatile. And the Insight was designed and built from the ground up to be what it is: a hybrid.

Safety

This year, the Insight was named a "2012 Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Honda is committed to providing safety for everyone—that means crash protection not only for our own drivers and passengers, but also for the occupants of other vehicles. Honda has added new brake features to the Insight including, anti-lock braking system which uses a special modulator to pulse the brakes and help prevent wheel lockup, helping the driver retain steering control when braking hard. And the electronic brake distribution balances the braking forces at each wheel according to how the car is dynamically loaded.

Environment

Of course, the Insight was designed to achieve excellent fuel economy. But we also wanted to create a practical and affordable vehicle, making hybrid technology accessible to more people. With an EPA-estimated 44 hwy mpg, the AT-PZEV-rated Insight ranks as one of the more efficient cars on the road today. Honda engineers have continued to refine its design, which is why the 2012 Insight boasts higher fuel economy than ever.
